Art
My name is Ginger McEachern and I have taught Art for the past
17 years. I received an undergraduate degree from the University
of Vermont and a Master’s Degree in Early Childhood Education
from Wheelock College in Boston. In addition to being a teacher,
I am a working artist and a local art gallery and gift shop owner.
The
one word I would use to describe my art class philosophy is EXPLORATION!
The art curriculum, at all levels, explores different mediums
in the creating art. The children will explore painting; both
acrylic and watercolor, clay, collage, graphite, charcoal and
colored pencil, print making, markers and sculpture. The art curriculum
is closely intertwined with the classroom curriculums whenever
possible. Art is used to enhance what is being taught in the classrooms.
Children
throughout the class levels are introduced to artists that will
help to demonstrate a concept we are working on. Some artists
frequently referenced are Georgia O’Keefe, The Impressionists,
Frida Kahlo, Wassily Kadinsky, and Jackson Pollack to name just
a few. Children will also study the art of different areas of
the world.
When
the children begin their art exploration they will be introduced
to the beginning concepts of color; primary and secondary, color
mixing, and shape. Children, early on, will practice with art
tools: scissors, pencils, markers and paint. As the children advance
they will be introduced to and explore artistic concepts; realistic
and abstract art, 3 dimensional and 2 dimensional art and perspective.
It
is my hope that children will find and develop their own artistic
voice that will carry throughout their lifetime. I believe creating
art should be a joyful experience.
