The Brighton School just completed our annual Read-A-Thon. This is the PTOs primary fundraiser that directly supports new books and educational materials for each of the school’s classrooms. This year’s theme was “Launch Into Reading!”
How did the Read-A-Thon Work?
The Read-A-Thon ran from January 30th to February 27th. The goal was for each child to find sponsors and read, or be read to, for at least a total of 10 cumulative hours. Rockets were posted on the Universe-themed bulletin board in the main hallway. As the students read, stars were added to the universe marking their accomplishments. The growing universe kept the students inspired to keep reading and provided an opportunity for students to share the titles of some of their favorite books.
During the Read-A-Thon, students also had the opportunity to participate in the annual book swap. For the book swap, students brought in used books to sell to their classmates ($0.10-$0.75). It was a great opportunity for everyone to update their personal libraries!
